Grow through serving...
18 % of our General Budget currently goes to the work of missions both locally and around the world.
Your contributions to Ellery Baptist Church help fund relief efforts in Haiti, well digging in Africa and women in crisis right here at home.
Besides those we support monthly we also contribute to the work of Dean, Karen and Aly Houser with AMG Intl working with an orphanage in Uganda, and the Kidder Family in the Sudan.
The work of missions is never done. Through these efforts and more we seek to promote the Gospel of Christ in our area and around the world.
We had a blessed time with the team during our 2 youth camps. So much has happened in the last 2 weeks that it seems impossible to get you caught up in just a short email. But if you are following my blog, then be looking for new posts in the coming weeks.
After the team left, Kaitlyn and I spent all of Sunday and Monday resting and recovering. We cut my hair, which in hindsight might have been better to wait until we weren't so tired, but it doesn't look so bad, and it feels much better in this heat. I also hit my first taxi in Kampala. I was entering a very packed traffic circle and a taxi cut in front of me. I slowed down and was looking to my right to see how I could squeeze in after him when he suddenly stopped. I just barely brushed his rear tail light. He got out of the taxi to assess the damage. I was convinced that when he saw a muzungu behind the wheel he would demand money, but he saw there was nothing wrong, got back in the taxi, and rode off. I must be getting used to driving here, because I wasn't even all
that upset about it. And a few minutes later I passed a big truck on a double line.
Please join us in praying this week:
TUESDAY (Jan 28) - Pray for the team as they are home and getting back into their "real lives" again. Pray that God would continue to work in their hearts. Also pray for the next team coming in May. That the Lord would direct me in planning for that team.
WEDNESDAY (Jan 29) - Pray for guidance as I feel that apart from my work with teams, that the Lord is changing my focus in other areas of ministry. Pray that God would speak to my heart to know where and how He wants me to serve in the coming months.
THURSDAY (Jan 30) - Pray for my work permit. Pray that we will have all of the documents ready and that it gets processed quickly so that I can be here legally.
FRIDAY (Jan 31) - Pray as I am back to driving myself (instead of riding
around with the team). Pray for God's protection in the traffic, for safety from people passing by, and that He will keep me alert to everything around me.
SATURDAY (Feb 1) - Pray for preparations for the return of the students at school. Pray that God would work in the hearts of the staff as we prepare Bible lessons and other activities for the coming term.
SUNDAY (Feb 2) - Pray that in all the busy-ness we will still remember to take time to rest and recharge, and not feel guilty for taking that time.
MONDAY (Feb 3) - Pray for the first day of school at Upendo. Pray for the children as they come back to school to begin a new year. Pray that God will work in their hearts this year.
TUESDAY (Feb 4) - Pray for the teachers of Upendo. Pray that God would work in their hearts and that they would be serious in their walk with Him and will set a good example for the children.
So what's been going on with you?
Thank you for your prayers and love.
Greetings from Kampala! Sorry it took a while to update. I have been down with a nasty cough and flu. Because of the heat and lack of rain here, the dust has been awful and filling up my lungs with junk. I spent all weekend laying around feeling awful. I even had the experience of going to a Ugandan clinic to get checked out. They tested me for malaria, and thankfully I didn't have it. So that was a relief! So I've been laying low and trying to recover, which as most of you know is very difficult for me because I'm ready to get back to work! But
I'm on the upswing and getting back in to the swing of things.
Please join me in praying:
THURSDAY (Feb. 13) - Please pray for good health and strength. My immune system was weakened by the cough, so pray that God will bring strength. Pray also for my work permit, that it will be processed quickly and be one less thing for me to be concerned about.
FRIDAY (Feb 14) - Pray for protection. The US Embassy has notified US citizens here of an increased risk terrorist attacks in Kampala. Pray that the Lord will protect us and give us courage.
SATURDAY (Feb 15) - Pray for a meeting we are having at Upendo today gathering together with 3 of the teachers about the Dorcas ministry. Currently the program for Dorcas is lacking there. I was meeting with the girls informally last year, and begin with Kaitlyn to do the same now that school is back in session, but there are teachers there who are in charge of it. So pray with us that we can form one team and become unified to come up with a plan for this term.
SUNDAY (Feb 16) - Pray that the Lord would continue to work in my heart, as well as in Kaitlyn's. Pray that He would give us unity and that we will keep ourselves focused on Him. Pray that we will take the time we need to be in His word, listening to His voice.
MONDAY (Feb 17) - Pray for plans for the team coming in May for the
pastor's conference. Pray that God will give me guidance to know how to plan for their time here. Pray for the team as they prepare to come, that God would provide for them financially.
TUESDAY (Feb 18) - Pray for Joy as I am continuing to work with her. We are planning to meet throughout the week to work on her academics. But I am also hoping to meet with her on Sundays for mentoring/discipling. Pray that the Lord would use me to encourage her and that His love would pour out of me. Pray that the time we spend together will help her to grow spiritually.
WEDNESDAY (Feb 19) - Pray for me as I continue to plan lessons for the children at Upendo. Pray that the Lord would use me to speak to their hearts. We are going through parts of the Old Testament, talking about the beginning. Pray that God would use me to teach them.
I hope you have a wonderful week. Thank you for your continued prayers and support. Without you, I couldn't do the work I am doing.
